Pets And Wildlife With Dr. Katy Nelson

Spooked By a Skunk: Dr. Katy Nelson, host of The Pet Show on DC'S News Channel 8, sits in for vacationing Dr. Gary Weitzman as she takes on the case of Kongo and Jeeves, two formerly outdoor cats in Herndon, Virginia that had a recent run in with a skunk.

TV Training: In Rockville, Maryland, a dog named Breitling has a habit of barking incessantly at the TV, particularly when there is a dog on the screen.

Plant Eating Puppy: A frustrated gardener in Washington, D.C. wants to get rid of a 10-month-old yellow lab that destroys whatever she plants in the garden. Dr. Katy has a better idea.

I will not be listening to the Animal House if Dr. Katy answers questions about animals. The best advice Dr. Katy could give the woman who had the 10 month old lab puppy was to crate it, not just when the owner was not home but all the time! But then, Dr. Katy couldn’t even put medications away so her Jack Russell was safe! How about putting things like medications, shoes, etc., away where the puppy can’t chew them? How about restricting the puppy to a few rooms that are puppy proofed? Maybe an x-pen so the puppy can play in a safe environment? Rather than have the puppy in a crate most of its life, how about a walk? What about redirecting the puppy to chew toys for teething and reducing boredom? How many hours a day (and night) does Dr. Katy expect the puppy to be in the crate?? When the puppy does get out of the crate, what do you think it is likely to do with all that pent up energy?? Dr. Katy’s statement that “the puppy doesn’t deserve the freedom” told me what a vindictive animal owner she is. Bring back the compassionate Dr. Gary or I won’t listen anymore.
