Scratching Cats And Biting Cockatiels

Dr. Gary Weitzman of the Washington Animal Rescue League offers advice and counsel to 3 listeners; one wants to know how to rid her yard of rats, without hurting her dog; another listener has a 4 year old cockatiel that is biting her and her husband inexplicably; and the third question comes from a man wondering if getting a companion for his cat will help solve a problem with excessive grooming. Re: Rats -- I was listening to your show today and a caller discussed her concerns with rats in her neighborhood. FYI -- I live in Annandale, VA and use ProTech, a termite and pest control company. They have placed black boxes with rat bate on either side of my house with a poison that puts rats to sleep and kills them when they eat the bate. Cats and dogs cannot get into these boxes so they are not exposed to the poison. The poison is not supposed to be harmful to cats and dogs either. They insert cylinder type containers in the ground around my house for termite control which dogs and cats cannot reach. I do not have termites or rats, so their system works for me. If your caller lives in or near Northern Virginia, they might want to give ProTech a try. I love your show, by the way, and have learned several things which are helpful for me and my pets -- 2 rescue dogs.
